I thought it would be a great idea to list up your podsafe music sources - so here we go:

Podsafe Music Network
IODA Promonet
Magnatune

So - what other podsafe music sources do you use?

Those are pretty much the only ones I know about myself.  It is such a pity that IODA's Promonet and Magnatune don't have country searches ... unless I am missing them.

From a South African point regarding Podsafe Music, I have been hard at work over the past year to convince as many South African artists and indie labels to get their music onto the Podsafe Music Network.  I don't know why, but I am not getting the response I am expecting.  I am not seeing them jumping high onto the band wagon and jumping for the opportunity to promote their music in the international space.  Is there anybody else having the same problem?

I've been having a similar problem with musicians in Israel. I have a music podcast and the hardest thing to do was an episode about the music in my own country. People treat the new medium with suspicion, probably because it's so new.

Am I glad I am not the only one who suspects that the music industry in my country is suspicious or uncertain about this medium called podcasting.

The Sale Of I Pods will directly influence the amount of interest in a Podcast that features Music as Ipod sales increase downloads increase !  Also the more computer users that have I Tunes and other down load apps
influence the freqency of downloads ! I think ?

So - what other podsafe music sources do you use?

We have spent the last month contacting a lot of the artists directly.  We are upfront and tell them that we broadcast live from 2-5pm (est) on Sundays, and then put the show up for podcast later that night.

We have had an overwhelming response.  So far we have had a variety of responses.

The most popular is
"YES!!!"

There are some artists that are under contract with a record company, but they give their blessings and direct us to the exact person we need to talk to in order to get permission.  This has helped cleared a lot of guess work and red tape.

On 4 separate occasions we went to the record label asking about one band, and we walked away with permission to use anything the label had.

We had one answer of:  "pay BMG, ASCAP, (and all other agencies) and you don't have to ask permission" .. this is a band that we did not add to The Syndicate.

And, out of 100's of requests that we sent out, we have only had one "no".

We give the bands a link on our page (and sadly, I am about 2 weeks behind on the list as of this writing and we are lacking links to about 50 bands):
The Syndicate Bands

There have been several groups that have asked if they could come in for interviews (and we will eventually do that as soon as we get our rhythm down).

There's a great list of repositories at the Creative Commons site: http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Content_Curators

You can also check out the Internet Archive open source audio section.

Also, if you Google "Creative Commons Search" there are search engines that just search creative commons music sources.

Make sure the creative commons license allows commercial use though.
